80% Sauvignon, 15% Semillon and 5% Muscadelle, with 50% fermented in barrel, this punches well above its weight. At 8 years of age it’s still on the improve and develops nicely in the glass. Notes of honeysuckle and linden leaf mesh neatly with hints of vanilla bean from the oak, leading to a silky palate of good volume and length and a nicely poised finish. Would sit comfortably in a line-up of white Bordeaux at many times the price. And it’s in StelvinLux too!’ Gavin Lennard, Vintage and Vine, Australian Importer, June 2017.
'The wines are splendidly concentrated, very clean and pure. Thierry Despres is a fanatic, as well as an individualist, but he makes very good wines.' Clive Coates MW, The Wines and Domaines of France.
Thierry Despres is the very jovial owner and wine-maker of Grande Maison. The sweet Monbazillacs are Thierry’s pride and joy, although his dry whites and reds from the Bergerac appellation are equally outstanding. Since arriving at Grande Maison, a 13th century building, he has completely renovated both the vineyards and the buildings.
