Rhône Valley

The Rhone Valley has always been a favourite of ours as the grape varieties and blends are so familiar to Australians even if the structure, flavour and complexity of these wines is notably different from Australian wines made from the same varieties.

We represent some of the very best producers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape all producing remarkably different styles, together with some of the youngest and newest estates.

Mont-Redon is not only one of the most historied producers but also the rising star of the region and produces red wines that have a track record of ageing comfortably for decades and also fresh crisp and fragrant white wines for immediate enjoyment.

Clos des Papes are at the very top of the quality tree not only in this region but in all France, Paul-Vincent Avril is recognised as one of the greatest winemakers of France. Having learnt winemaking in Burgundy Paul-Vincent produces just one white and one red wine both of remarkable quality and both capable of ageing for decades.

From the legendary Henri Bonneau come wines that are similar to those made centuries ago in such an artisan way of production with incredibly long barrel ageing - quite unlike any other producers anywhere in France. Remarkable and great wines.

Julien Barrot from La Barroche is one of the youngest producers in the Rhone and makes strikingly deep and fine reds with tiny quantities of equally brilliant white.

In Gigondas, Saint Damien produces wines of depth and character from the lowest lying vineyards of Gigondas and Domaine d'Ourea has the highest vineyard in Gigondas producing a wine so mineral and fresh yet still with all the character and typicity of this great appellation. Both producers here work their vines organically.

In the northern Rhone we represent some of the newest and youngest domaines including David Reynaud and Domaine de la Roche Paradis where Yann Menager had been the vineyard manager for Yves Cuilleron for nearly 20 years. Having introduced the wines of Yves Cuilleron to Australia in the 1990's it is fitting for us to now introduce the newest up and coming star of the Northern Rhone to Australia.
