Savennières - The Grand Cru of Chenin Blanc
One of the smallest appellations of the Loire Valley and also one of the most diverse - and certainly one of the most exciting regions of France for an explosion in quality wines.
Just 146 ha of vines planted only to Chenin Blanc in some of the most fascinating terroirs in France. On a base of schist with very complex diversity some vineyards are overlaid with sandy topsoil yet for all wines the soil imprint on each and every wine is remarkable.
Equally diverse if the approach of wine-making by the increasingly young brigade of producers who are finally unlocking the incredible potential of this great appellation.
Some wines are aged in barrel and kept on lees for varying times and some aged only in stainless steel tanks. These are some of the most age-worthy white wines in France yet you may have trouble resisting them as they also provide great pleasure in their youth.
